Welcome to Class One

In Class One we have a mixed class of reception and year 1 children.

Our teacher is Miss Breslin.

Our teaching assistants are Mrs Baines and Mrs Davies.

In Class One we like to make our learning fun and our day is always busy! We believe the best way to learn is to get ‘stuck in’ and have a go.

Here is some of the maths work we have been working on this week...

What do you need to remember:

PE days are Mondays and Thursdays

We need Wellies in school everyday!

Homework goes out on a Friday and needs to be brought back on a Wednesday.

What topic are we doing?

In class 1 this term our topic is ‘Wet and Wild’ The children in class 1 are really excited to learn about lots of different wild and wet animals. We have been looking at some traditional stories and the children have really enjoyed lots of role play! Have a look at some of the other things we have been learning about:

We have looked closely at three traditional stories so far. Little Red Riding Hood, Hasel and Gretel and Jack and the Beanstalk. We talked about the favourite parts of the story and discussed the characters. We have created a ‘wild’ reading area to share books with each other.

We have learnt about speech this term and we used the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to think of some things the characters might say. Here are some reception children thinking of speech for characters in the story.

When reading the story of Hansel and Gretel Miss Javed set us a challenge to make houses using crackers and biscuits. It was quite tricky and we had to be very careful. We used iceing sugar to stick our walls together.

We have also studied our family trees. Children thought of many creative ways to display their family trees.

Our maths wall this term is helping us to learn how to counts in 2’s 5’s and 10’s. Miss Walton has even recorded herself counting on a talk tin to help us to remember the pattern.

We have visited the Monsoon Restaurant in Slaithwaite to learn about other cultures. We were treated to a meal of onion bajis, samosas, chicken korma, rice and nann bread. It was delicious!

We have also been asked to produce some art work for Golcar Lily Day. We invited an artisit in to come and work with us and show us different techniques of colouring. We created a daffodil with the help of Mrs Bradbury.
