WE ARE A PROUD MY HAPPY MIND SCHOOL

We are proud to announce that we are a myHappymind Bronze Accredited school! This means that as a school we consider the mental health and wellbeing of our children as one of our top priorities. We have created a whole school culture that helps build our children's resilience, confidence and self esteem as well as teaching them how to self regulate in those stressful times.  This Accreditation badge has been awarded thanks to all the effort our staff, children, governors and parents have put in to bring the lessons of myHappymind to life all around our school!

PSHE ASSOSIATION

The PSHE assosiation  focuses on signposting our school to high-quality resources and helps us to expand the bespoke  PSHE programme within each of our three schools. The association enables the teacher to deliver all areas of the PSHE curriculm for Personal, Social, Health and Economic education as well as promoting the teaching of consent as part of RSE, in line with the statutory guidance for that subject.

NSPCC

The NSPCC offers a wide range of resources to support our curriculum including topics such as online safety, family bereavement and healthy relationships. We use tools and resources to talk to our children about their changing body and about privacy.

Working with our local emergency services

Here at the Heights we work closely with our local emergency services team. They deliver high quality workshops to our children including fire safety, keeping safe near the railways and road safety.

Working with Barclays Bank and HMRC

We pride ourselves on reaching out to partners who can offer enhancements to our economic well-being and understanding. Barclays bank provide us with workshops about fraud and money management and the HMRC also visit our schools to provide tax workshops - ensuring the children have a good understanding of why and what we are taxed upon in our country.

RSE

Here at The Heights Federation, we aim to promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive taught programme of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education that gives children and young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future. We do this though our links with the PSHE assosiation and through the My Happy Mind programme. As part of our comprehensive and age appropriate long terms plans for PSHE we also teach Relationships and Sex Eduction (RSE). The focus within each year group being upon safety and the changing body:

Year 1 - Appropriate contact

Year 2 - Private parts

Year 3 - Growing up

Year 4 - Introduction to puberty, managing hygiene in males and females

Year 5 - Puberty, menstruation, emotional changes in puberty.

Year 6 - Physical and emotional changes in puberty, conception and pregnancy and birth

POL ED

Pol-Ed is a West Yorkshire Police education programme, written by teachers for teachers in schools across West Yorkshire. Its purpose is to keep children safe by developing their understanding of risks, consequences and the law and to develop their resilience and ability to help and support each other.

We use the Pol-Ed resources to enhance our curriculum and to ensure that the children have a full and comprehensive cover within the wider PSHE curriculum coverage particularly for sensitive subjects such as drugs and alcohol.
