EYFS Framework
Our learning approach is aligned with the EYFS Framework, encompassing the seven key areas of learning and development, addressing both prime and specific domains.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to children from birth to the end of the Reception year. In our school children join our nursery in the term after they are 3 years old. They join our reception classes at the beginning of the school year in which they are five.
The EYFS is based upon four principles:
- Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
- Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationship
- Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers
- Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
Prime Areas
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
Specific Areas
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
What does learning look like in reception?
Here at Wellhouse we have mixed aged classes and in Class 1 we have reception and Year 1 children. We plan and deliver a skills based curriculum in reception which identifies baseline levels and staff then plan and deliver skills based learning in an engaging and stimulating environment both indoors and outdoors.
Take a look at our skills based curriculum below and our EYFS intent statement above.
